DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Northwestern women's volleyball team traveled down to Clarke University for another double header day. The Eagles dominated Saint Ambrose sweeping them before doing the same to Clarke University, for the second time this season.
Northwestern 3, Saint Ambrose 0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12)
UNW scored six straight points before the Fighting Bees got on the board. Saint Ambrose cut the Northwestern lead to four (at the least) but the Eagles prevailed to take set one by 10.
Set two began a little closer as UNW went back and forth scoring points with the Fighting Bees. Saint Ambrose took the lead, mid set, up by two to make set two a little more complicated for the Eagles.
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had two kills to help Northwestern to four straight points to win set two 25-21.
In the final set, UNW was unstoppable, defeating the Fighting Bees 25-12.
The Eagles finished with 34 kills, hitting a .242 average compared to the .000 average of Saint Ambrose.
Soleil Newland (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids - Rice) led in kills for Northwestern with 10,
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) added eight and
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) had five.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) aced three serves and dished out 29 assists.
Marylyn Schroyer (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) picked up 14 digs.
Northwestern 3, Clarke 0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22)
UNW was back at it against Clarke University after taking down Saint Ambrose earlier in the day. Same as their first match, the Eagles won in three, sweeping the Pride.
Northwestern won the first point before Clarke scored four straight. The Pride went on a few runs in advance to the Eagles' takeover in set one.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) had two service aces and
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) hit two strong kills to bring UNW to 25 first.
Set two began with a few lead changes before the Eagles took charge for good. The Pride went on a four point run to come close to Northwestern before
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) closed things out for the Eagles to go up two sets on Clarke.
The Pride did not give up as there were eight times the score was tied in set three. UNW would persevere to a 25-22 win to sweep the Pride.
The Eagles added another 38 kills on the day, hitting a .248 average to the .078 average of Clarke.
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) had 12 kills, while
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) and
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) each added eight.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) had four more aces and 36 assists against Clarke.
Marylyn Schroyer (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) ended with 20 digs and
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) had 18.
Winning four in a row, the Eagles move to 11-4 on the season.
Northwestern has concluded their fall 2020 regular season play and will look to compete in the NCCAA National Championship Tournament in late November.
