ANKENY, IOWA – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team traveled to Iowa Thursday afternoon to take on Faith Baptist Bible College. Faith is coming off its greatest season ever last year, winning 14 games while losing only 5. They finished third in the NCCAA National Soccer Championships and return two All-Americans. Northwestern would come out on top after scoring two second half goals to defeat Faith Baptist.
UNW came into the contest 2-3 on the year while Faith had a 2-2 record.
In the first half Northwestern outscored Faith seven shots to one. The first 45 minutes was even play for the most part as no goals were scored. The UNW took the first six shots of the game before Faith took one.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) had three shots to end the first half while
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) took two. Northwestern went into the half with high hopes of securing the win if they could connect and find the back of the net.
Five minutes into the second half
Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) found the back of the net to put UNW up by one. Northwestern would continue to take shots on goal and gave the Faith goalie no breaks.
With four minutes to go in the game,
Maia Ellenburg (Winona, Minn./Winona) connected with
Emily Brink (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes Baptist School) who scored her first collegiate goal.
UNW finished the game with 22 shots to Faith's 3. Northwestern secured six corner kicks to add to their offensive day.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) took six shots (four SOG) and
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) took five (three SOG).
UNW will host Clarke University on Wednesday, October 21 at 4 pm.
