Youngberg's Career-High Leads Eagles to 92-78 Win Over Northland

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team welcomed Northland College to the Ericksen Center for Wednesday night UMAC action. The Eagles recorded their fifth straight victory over the Lumberjacks, shooting 50% from the field on the night to cruise to a 92-78 final victory.

UNW moves to 8-6 on the year and 4-1 in UMAC play, while Northland falls to 4-9 (1-3) this season.

Following a competitive opening 10 minutes, UNW began to pull away midway through the half sparked by nine three-point makes. Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) drained a shot from long range at the 9:40 mark to put UNW up by 10 (28-18). Northwestern continued to groove, pulling away to lead by 20 after four straight free throw makes from senior Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area).

The Eagles entered the half up 52-33 led by Youngberg with 14 points, six boards. UNW knocked down nine of 19 three-pointers and shot 53% from the field.

Momentum shifted in second half play when Northland put together a 20-12 run to pull within 11 points (64-53). Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) quickly put an end to the Lumberjack surge, knocking down a shot from beyond the arc before Kaemingk and Youngberg followed up with back-to-back layups.

Four Eagles put together double-digit scoring led by Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) with a career-high 26 point performance. The senior also pulled down 17 rebounds to record his sixth double-double this season.

Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) each tacked on 15 points on the night, while Owen Boerema (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) finished with 13. Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) dished out a team-best nine assists and Boerema added five.

The Eagles scored 44 points in the paint and never trailed in the contest.

UNW will have a bye in conference action this Saturday before returning to play on Wednesday, January 15 when they welcome Minnesota Morris to St. Paul. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
