Women's Soccer Scores Three To Beat Finlandia

ST. PAUL, Minn – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team came out later on Friday night to take on their opponent, the Finlandia Lions. The weather was brisk, but enjoyable, as the teams played under the lights at Reynolds Field.

The Eagles had the upper hand most of the game taking twenty shots on net to the Lions ten. Head Coach, Josh Pettit, coached the Eagles well as they went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Junior, Danielle Robert had a hard fought run down the center of the field with a strong strike on the ball, past the keeper for Northwestern's first goal of the night. In the tenth minute, Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool) found Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy) in stride, to pass a defender and slice a hard shot across field and into the upper half of the goal to make it 2-0 Eagles.

Northwestern's defense allowed just one goal on net for the Lions in the first half.

As the second half came around, the Eagles were not done playing. In the seventieth minute, Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) broke through the Lions defense for another powerful hit on the ball, past the goalie for the third and final goal of the match. Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) ended the night with 6 shots as Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) added 5.

The Eagles are back in action on Reynolds Field Tuesday night, be sure to tune in or come to the game for more Eagles soccer. For all things women's soccer visit unweagles.com.
