Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Emily Goeppinger

Welch and Roberts Dominate In 6-0 Win Against Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team matched-up Tuesday night, against a team they know far too well. Bethany Lutheran College, a team in the UMAC (Upper Midwest Athletic Conference), traveled to Reynolds field for the face-off. It was windy, rainy and blustery for the Eagles, but they persevered.

Twenty minutes into the first half, junior Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) scored to give the Eagles the upper hand. Nine minutes later, Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) put in her fifth goal of the season.

Though the weather dictated style of play, the Eagles were able to stay in possession most of the first half giving up only three shots to Bethany while taking twelve.

The Eagles came out with a bang as senior Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy) scored nineteen seconds into the second half off an assists from Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) and Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake). Not even minutes later, Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) came blasting through with her second goal on the night off of another Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) assist.

Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) was able to finish on a goal box play off of a pass from Alexis Albrecht (Fargo, N.D./Sheyenne) to bring the score to 4-0. Earning her first hat trick of the season, Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) finished the goal scoring as Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) assisted to Welch for her third and final goal.

It was an impressive showing for the Eagles, strutting their stuff through the rain and cold. Northwestern had a total of thirty-four shots.

Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) added seven shots, four on goal, and tabbed two assists on the night. Captain Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool) took two shots on goal for the night.

The Eagles will face the College of Saint Scholastica this Saturday at Reynolds Field. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 pm. Support your Lady Eagles by coming to the game or watching live on unweagles.com.
