Women's Soccer Falls To Hamline

ST PAUL, Minn. – Wednesday night the University of Northwestern women's soccer team went down Snelling to face the Hamline Pipers. The sun was gleaming along with quite a ton of wind, giving an upper hand to one team each half.

Right off the bat, the Eagles came out ready to fight and put one in the back of the net. Junior Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) had a cross from the left side of the field, to Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) who was able to place the ball in the goal.

The rest of the first half showed skill from both teams. Northwestern had the wind behind them to boost their advantage against the Pipers. Although the Eagles had more chances, no one else was able to find the back of the net.

Second half, the Eagles needed to have defensive toughness as Hamline had the wind behind them. In the first two minutes, the Pipers got through the Eagles' defense and scored their first goal. They went on a 3-0 run on the Eagles before the 60 minute mark. In the seventy-fourth minute, Hamline scored their final goal.

As the Eagles got down in the second half, they did not give up. Junior Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) lit up the right side multiple times, dribbling the ball to bring some offense for the Eagles. On one of her crosses she found Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) who powered the ball into the right side netting for Northwestern's second goal.

The Eagles will continue their season this Friday at 7 pm; Home at Reynolds Field. Come support your Lady Eagles on the 27th as they take on Finlandia. For more information check-in to unweagles.com.
