ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern lady eagles ran through their opponents netting eight goals against Crown College. Traveling an hour away from campus, Northwestern came ready to fight and prove their talent.
Four minutes into the game,
Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy) scored on an assist from
Alexis Albrecht (Fargo, N.D./Sheyenne). In the twenty-first and twenty-second minute,
Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) scored a pair of unassisted goals to go up 3-0 on The Storm. The Eagles controlled the ball most of the half, keeping possession to themselves. Before the end of the half,
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool) scored unassisted and
Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) scored her first UNW goal off an assist from
Alexis Albrecht (Fargo, N.D./Sheyenne).
Second half proved similar strength as The Eagles kept up their drive. In the sixty-sixth minute,
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) assisted
Riley Bauer (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) who scored her first of two goals on the night, and first ever UNW goals.
Leah Larsen (White Bear Lake, Minn./Mahtomedi) came through to score her first of the season, as well as first collegiate goal, also on an assist from
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake). To end the night,
Riley Bauer (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) finished a ball from
Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch).
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) finished the night with a team high 14 shots and 4 on goal.
Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy) had 10 shots with 3 shots on goal.
Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) tabbed 7 shots and 6 on goal while
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool) has 7 shots and 4 on net.
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) started the night in goal and
Leah Brewer (Waukesha, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran) played second half. Northwestern played phenomenal defense as Crown was only allowed one chance towards goal.
Taylor Brinkman (Hudson, Wis./Hudson),
Ellyn Boland (Marshalltown, Iowa./Marshalltown),
Alexis Albrecht (Fargo, N.D./Sheyenne) and
Natalie Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan County Christian) were strong in the back helping keep the ball on the offensive half.
The Eagles came away with seventeen corner kicks while Crown had none. Northwestern was aggressive, ready to take charge and finish the game well. Northwestern came away with 60 shots and 26 total on net.
