ST PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team hosted The St. Catherine Wildcats this Saturday night under the lights. This game marked the first home game for the team as they continue in their 2019 season.
The contest began with a bang as energy was high at Reynolds Field. The Eagles started strong against the MIAC team, playing a close, physical and high intensity game.
Taylor Brinkman (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) led the defensive line and kept the team to high standards.
Twenty minutes into the first half, The Wildcats scored their first goal. Ten minutes later, they were able to finish on a second chance play to make the score 2-0.
Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy) was running the sideline hard and able to get one of three Eagle shots on net in the first forty-five minutes of play.
Second half proved strong again for The Eagles with four more shots including a few from senior, forward
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake). Freshman goalie,
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville), tabbed a total 9 saves in net for the Eagles.
The Wildcats made one final goal in the sixty-fifth minute of play. The Eagles were unable to capitalize against a tough St Kates defense.
