ARDEN HILLS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team came out fighting in their first game of the season this Friday. The Lady Eagles matched up against a well-known opponent, the Bethel Royals.
The first thirty minutes of play revealed a strong Northwestern defense as the score held 0-0. In the thirty-second minute, the Royals found the back of the net to make it a 1-0 score. Coming into half-time the Eagles were down 2-0 and looking to fight back.
Northwestern's offense was able to get down field and had opportunities on goal but were not able to capitalize.
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) had one shot on goal along with a few other players tallying shots for the Eagles. Freshman goalie,
Leah Brewer (Waukesha, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran) played a tough and solid first career game, recording 7 saves on the night.
At the end of ninety minutes, the Eagles came up short losing 6-0. The women look forward to continuing their non-conference play next week as they travel to Iowa to take on Central College.
