Berglund and Hageman Honored as Eagle Award Recipients

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The Eagle Award is an annual honor given to a standout male and female athlete voted on by the athletic department's coaching staff. The award is based upon criteria that includes: academic honors, athletic accomplishments and ministry involvement. Women's basketball athlete Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) won the female award, and men's basketball athlete Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) won the male award.

The senior from Springfield, Virginia was a four-year starter and four-time all-conference member, Amy concluded her career inked throughout the record books. She's recorded top 10 career totals in: points (6th), rebounds (8th), steals (2nd), blocks (2nd) and assists (9th).

Berglund's standout career earned her several accolades. In addition to four all-conference nods, Amy is a four-time NCCAA All-Region honoree and a 2017 NCCAA All-American. This season, Berglund led the Eagles to the semi-final round of the UMAC tournament, where Northwestern fell in overtime to the regular season champions. Her work in the classroom has landed her on the UMAC Academic All-Conference list four times and twice on the NCCAA scholar-athlete list.

Majoring in Kinesiology (Physical Education & Health), Berglund is currently completing her student teaching. She has volunteered for After School Kids at Calvary Church, served at Operation Christmas Child, worked Minnesota Special Olympics events and traveled to the Dominican Republic to serve the nation's orphanages. Amy's impact on the Northwestern women's basketball program will be felt for years to come.
 
2018-2019 Male Eagle Award Recipient - Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City)
The senior from Charles City, Iowa was a two-year starter, four-year letter winner, and one-year captain for the Northwestern men's basketball program. Hageman has made a lasting impact at UNW. The senior has been a crucial member of three UMAC Conference Tournament Championships and three NCAA tournament appearances. This season, the veteran guard helped lead the Eagles to a first round NCAA tournament upset over no. 8 Saint John's.

Hageman's success has earned him several accolades. On the court, Caleb is a two-time UMAC All-Conference pick and has earned both UMAC Player of the Week and NCCAA Player of the Week awards. His excellence in the classroom has helped him garner four UMAC Academic All-Conference nods, two NABC academic honors and recognition as a finalist for this year's UMAC Scholar Athlete Leadership Award.

Majoring in Data Analytics, Hageman has volunteered at Vacation Bible School, served on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic and volunteered at Feed My Starving Children. His work as a student, athlete and faith-driven leader truly sets him apart.
