The University of Northwestern Eagles (25-15) concluded the regular season with a sweep of Macalester (19-20). The Eagles won game one 13-8 and game two 8-1 to finish 7-5 against MIAC schools (including a split with the MIAC champion Gustavus Adolphus College).
Game One:
Northwestern got off to a hot start as
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) hit a two-out double.
Carlton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) singled to left to drive him home and then
Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) doubled to left to bring home Lindow. Macalester scored one run in both the first and the second, but Northwestern took the lead for good in the third.
Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Home School) led off with a single and then stole second.
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) walked to load the bases after
Caleb Piersma (Pella, Iowa/Pella) was hit by a pitch. Lindow singled to left to drive home Morrell and Piersma and then Krahn singled home Peterson.
Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) hit a two-out double to drive home Lindow and Wakabayashi (who reached via a fielder's choice) and then
Holt Goodwin (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) walked. Morrell got his second single of the inning to load the bases once again and
Caleb Piersma (Pella, Iowa/Pella) followed with a single to score
Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) before
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) singled to score Goodwin. The Eagles scored seven runs on seven hits to make it 9-2 after two-and-a-half innings of play.
Macalester added four in the bottom of the fourth, but Northwestern responded with four of their own in the top of the sixth.
Daren Halvorson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) doubled to left before
Chad Wakabayashi (Waipahu, Hawaii/Hanalani) reached via an error.
Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) walked to load the bases and then
Holt Goodwin (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) drew the bases loaded walk to score Halvorson.
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) singled to right to drive home both
Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) and Wakabayashi and then
Carlton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) singled to drive in
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin). Macalester added a seventh run (to make it 13-7) in the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh,
Daren Halvorson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) led off a walk.
Quinton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) pinch-hit to get his senior AB, and he ended up drawing a walk. He worked the count full and later said that "the team was mad that I didn't swing, but the two strikes I saw were outside fastballs and I didn't want to swing at those, so I walked." Macalester got out of the jam and added an eighth run in the bottom of the seventh but that was all they could muster.
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) reached base in all five of his plate appearances as he had three hits, drew two walks, had three RBIs, and scored two runs.
Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Home School) had three hits and drew one walk and
Carlton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) had three hits, had four RBIs, and two runs scored.
Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) had two hits and two RBIs, and
Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) had a hit, two walks, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
Max Barthel (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) threw the first two innings and gave up two runs as he recorded his second win of the season.
Dylan Ramberg (Harris, Minn./North Branch) gave up four runs in the third, but
Payton Brown (Elk River, Minn./PACT Charter) threw three innings and only gave up one hit.
Guerin Szafraniec (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) made his collegiate debut on the mound and gave up one run, with no hits.
Game Two:
In the top of the third, with the score tied at zero,
Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Home School) led off with a walk.
Andrew Simonson (Hudson, Wis./East Ridge) walked and then
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) doubled to left to bring home Morrell.
Philip Wall (Juneau, Alaska/IDEA) followed with a two-run double to make the score 3-0.
Macalester put up one run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 3-1, but the Eagles offense exploded in the top of the seventh.
Guerin Szafraniec (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a wild pitch, with two outs in the frame.
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) doubled to left to drive him home and then he scored on
Philip Wall's (Juneau, Alaska/IDEA) single.
Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) doubled to make it second and third and
Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) brought both Eagles home on a single to right.

Philip Wall (Juneau, Alaska/IDEA) was 3-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, and
Andrew Simonson (Hudson, Wis./East Ridge) and
Parker Seachrist (Effingham, Ill./Effingham) both drew two walks.
Chad Wakabayashi (Waipahu, Hawaii/Hanalani) got the start and threw the first two innings and gave up two hits.
Ryan Flanigan (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) got his first collegiate victory as he threw three perfect innings.
Andrew Simonson (Hudson, Wis./East Ridge) pitched the last two innings and he struck out two as he recorded his fourth save of the season.
