ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team fell to the St. Thomas Tommies this evening at Johnson Courts, in a tight 5-4 defeat. The loss moves the Eagles to 7-7 on the season.
UNW got off to a strong start indoubles action, coming up with two out of three possible victories. At the two spot, the tandem of Landon Ridpath (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and Tyrus Studer (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Stevens) earned a hard-fought victory (8-6), while the number three team of Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield Senior) and Colton Paskewitz (Browerville, Minn/Staples) were very efficient (8-3) in their victory.
Northwestern then faced some stiff competition in singles play, outlasting their opponents in two of the six matches played. Ridpath made quick work of his opponent at the one position (6-3, 6-1), while Austin Bricker (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grand) worked his way back for an impressive come-from-behind win (2-6, 7-6, 10-5) at the three spot.
Ridpath achieved an incredible milestone with his two match wins. He recorded his 100th career win and 50th career singles win (the second most in UNW men's tennis history).
