FOND DU LAC, WIS. – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team finished their weekend road trip, taking on the Sabres of Marian University. The first-ever meeting resulted in an Eagle, improving their record to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) play. The Sabres fall to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in MWLC contests.
The beginning of the game seemed like it was going to be a back-and-forth battle. The two squads traded goals for the first ten minutes, with Marian leading 4-3 at the 20 minute mark in the first half. The rest of the half and game would be dominated by the Eagles, however. Northwestern would go on a 6-1 run to end the half, and take the 9-5 lead.
The second half was all UNW, as they scored 10 goals to Marian's zero in the period. The Northwestern defense faced seven shots in the second half, and stopped them all. As a team, the Eagles went 17-20 on clears and totaled 52 shots on the contest.
