Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Conference Leading Pipers

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team traveled down Snelling Avenue to take on the Hamline University Pipers. The Pipers are undefeated in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) games, and sit atop the conference standings. Hamline remains undefeated, as they defeat the Eagles by a final score of 16-4. With the loss, UNW falls to 5-5 overall and 4-5 in MWLC contests.

Hamline came out strong, scoring just over two minutes into the game and added six more goals before Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) would find the back of the net for Northwestern midway through the half. Sherry would score again for Northwestern, but the Pipers took the 12-2 lead into halftime.

The Eagle defense picked up in the second half, holding the Pipers to just four goals in final 30 minutes. The offense continued to struggle, however, as they matched their first half total of two goals. Hamline outshot Northwestern 41-15 and 30-13 shots on goal.

Sherry led the offense with her two goals. Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and Annie Ellis (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) scored the other two goals for the Eagles. In net, Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) tallied 14 saves.

Northwestern returns to action Friday, April 19 hosting Illinois Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. For all things Eagle lacrosse, fans can visit www.unweagles.com.
