MOUNT VERNON, IOWA – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team took on the Rams of Cornell College in a mid-week Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) bout. The Eagles looked to avenge last season's 13-2 loss to the Rams by picking up a win Wednesday evening. Northwestern was victorious, picking up the win by a final score of 15-13. With the win, UNW improves to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in MLC contests.
The Rams were the first on the board, as they took the early 2-0 lead. It wouldn't last long, however, as the Eagles would answer with two goals of their own. In the second quarter, Northwestern took advantage scoring four unanswered goals before the Rams would score three goals of their own. The score was 7-6 in favor of Northwestern entering halftime.
The second half was back-and-forth between the two squads. Northwestern got the scoring going early, as the teams traded goals in the second half. The UNW defense was able to stand firm to end the game and secure the win.
Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) led the Eagle offense with seven goals and two assists.
Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) added three goals and two assists, while
Mat Anderson (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) added three goals and a lone assist. In net, Zach Schockency totaled nine saves in the win.
