Men’s Lacrosse Victorious over the Lumberjacks

ASHLAND, WIS. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team took on the Lumberjacks of Northland College in a mid-week, non-conference tilt. This is the second meeting this season between the two programs, with the Eagles winning the first matchup by a final score of 19-16. The Eagles take game number two, winning by a final score of 18-7. With the win UNW moves to 5-3 overall.

It did not take the Eagles long to get going, as Mat Anderson (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) found the back of the net less than a minute into the game. The rest of the quarter slowed down for both sides, as UNW would only put up two goals to the Lumberjacks one. Northland scored the first goal of the second quarter, but it was all Northwestern for the rest of the period. Northwestern would go on a 7-0 run to end the half and take a 10-2 lead into the break.

The Eagles continued to dominate in the second half of play, as they outscored the Lumberjacks 8-5. As a team, UNW tallied an impressive 63 shots (38 SOG) in the contest. The Northwestern defense forced 23 turnovers, while holding Northland to only seven goals.

Junior midfielder, Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) led the offense for Northwestern with six goals and an assist. Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) added four goals and two assists, while Anderson ended the contest with a trio of goals and assists.
