ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team welcomed Dubuque for a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon. This is the fourth meeting between the two teams and with today's 21-1 win, the Eagles tie the series at 2-2. Northwestern moves to 2-0 overall and remains at 1-0 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) play.
Northwestern started the game hot, scoring four goals in the first 10 minutes of action. The scoring did not stop there, as UNW would add seven more unanswered goals before the Spartans were to get on the board. The Eagles had 19 SOG to Dubuque's five, and would hold a 12-1 lead entering the break.
The Eagles continued their dominance in the second half, on both ends of the field. Northwestern would add nine more goals, but it was their defense that held strong. The Spartans were limited to just two SOG in the final frame, and they failed to net another goal. Junior
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview), tallied an impressive 12 points off of eight goals and four assists. Five other Eagles scored in the contest as well.
Northwestern is scheduled to take on Wartburg on Wednesday, March 13 with draw time set for 4:00 p.m. For all things Eagle lacrosse, fans can visit www.unweagles.com and follow @uwwlax on Instagram.
