ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team hosted Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) opponent Monmouth College in a Saturday morning matchup. This is the third meeting all-time between the two programs, with Northwestern now leading the series 3-0 after today's 10-7 win over the Fighting Scots. With the win, the Eagles move to 2-0 on the season, and 1-0 in MLC play.
The first half was a back and forth battle between the two teams, with both trading goals in the opening frames. Each team was getting great looks on net, as Monmouth had 15 SOG and Northwestern tallied 10 SOG. The Eagles would connect on six of those shots, and held a 6-4 advantage entering halftime.
The Fighting Scots did not give up in the second half. They were able to pull within two goals at one point, but the Eagle offense was too much for them to handle.
Mat Anderson (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) led the way offensively for the Eagles, netting three goals along with an assist. Anderson also nabbed nine ground balls and was impressive in the face-off circle, going 14-20.
Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) also added three goals for UNW.
Northwestern is scheduled to host North Central on Wednesday March 13, with faceoff set for 7:00 p.m. For all things Eagle lacrosse, fans can visit www.unweagles.com and follow @unw_lacrosse on Instagram.
