LISLE, ILL. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team traveled to the Prairie State to take on Benedictine University. This is the second meeting between the two programs, with the first being in Northwestern's inaugural season in 2017. Benedictine (4-3, 2-1 MLC) took the first matchup 15-4, and they took down UNW by a final score of 23-14 this afternoon. With the loss, Northwestern moves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) play.
Benedictine came out hot in the opening quarter, getting off to an early 5-0 lead before UNW was able to find the back of the net to get on the board. Northwestern trailed 6-1 after the first. Both teams found their groove in the second, each scoring six goals. Benedictine would carry a 12-7 lead into halftime.
The BenU offense continued to thrive in the second half, as they outscored Northwestern 11-7 in the second half. Junior midfielder
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) led the way for the Eagles with six goals to go along with seven ground balls.
Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) and
Mat Anderson (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) each added three goals a-piece as well.
