ST. PAUL, MINN. - The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team hosted fellow Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) opponent Loras College for a Saturday afternoon matchup. This marks the third meeting all-time between the Eagles and Duhawks, with UNW leading the series 2-0. Northwestern picks up their second win of the weekend and extends their streak against Loras, winning by a final score of 17-6.
The Eagles were the first to strike two minutes into the game, with
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) scoring off of a Broberg pass. The next five minutes were a bit of a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading goals to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of the UNW. Northwestern would then go on a 9-0 run to end the half and take a 12-2 lead into the break.
Late in the first half, a Loras player received her second yellow card of the day so the Duhawks had to play the remainder of the game down a player. The Eagles kept up the offensive pressure in the second half, as Sherry was able to net two quick goals. Seven other UNW players were able to make it into the scoring column on the day.
Sherry notched a career-high seven goals in the contest on 13 shots.
Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi),
Hannah Shands (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi), and
Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) each added a pair of goals as well, respectively. In net,
Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) tallied four saves on the win.
Northwestern will travel to Concordia-Wisconsin on Friday, April 5 for their next contest. For all things Eagle lacrosse, fans can visit www.unweagles.com.
