BELOIT, WIS. – The Univeristy of Northwestern men's lacrosse team traveled to the Badger state to take on the Buccaneers of Beloit College. This was the first-ever meeting between the two Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) opponents, and the Buccaneers (3-5, 2-2 MLC) take the first contest by a final score of 15-12. With loss, UNW falls to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in MLC games.
The first quarter was an even fight between the two programs as Beloit jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but UNW was able to even the score at 4-4 at the end of the first half. Northwestern was able to get the upper hand in the second quarter, outscoring the Buccaneers 5-3 in second frame and led 9-7 entering halftime.
The Eagles fell into a slump in the second half, getting outscored by a total of 8-3 in the two quarters. The Beloit defense was able to hold off the UNW attacks, never allowing their lead to fall below two goals.
Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) led the UNW offense with three goals and an assist.
Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View),
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo),
Landon Thurnau (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna), and
Chase Caswell (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) all added two goals for Northwestern as well. In net, Zach Shockency tallied 12 saves in the loss.
