MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team returned to Wisconsin to take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Wednesday evening contest. The Raiders were resting one game above the Eagles in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) standings prior to this game. The Raiders (4-5, 4-1 MLC) were able to pick up the win in the first-ever meeting between the two programs, by a final score of 17-7. With the loss UNW falls to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in MLC contests.
The first quarter was dominated by the Eagles, as they held the 3-1 lead at the end of the first.
Mat Anderson (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) found the back of the net first for Northwestern, and
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) added an additional two goals to close the quarter. The Raiders found their groove in the second quarter, as they score nine goals, and held the Eagles to a scoreless period. MSOE would take a 10-3 lead into halftime.
Northwestern tried to fight their way back in the second half, but the Raiders defense was too much to handle. The Eagles were outscored 4-3 in the third quarter, and 3-1 in the final frame. The late push was not enough, as MSOE secured the 17-7 victory.
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) led the UNW offense with two goals and two assists, followed by
Landon Thurnau (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) who added two goals as well, respectively.
Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) and
Chase Caswell (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) were also able to find the scoring column for the Eagles
