ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team hosted fellow Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) foe, North Central in a mid-week contest. The Eagles dominated from start to finish, as they down the Rams (0-4, 0-3 MLC) by a final score of 30-6. With the win, UNW improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in MLC play.
Junior
Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) got the Eagles off to their hot start, scoring the first goal of the game just over thirty seconds into the contest. North Central answered back quickly scoring a goal of their own, but UNW scored 12 unanswered to end the quarter. Northwestern continued to pile on the points outscoring NCU 8-2 in the second frame, and would carry a 21-4 lead into halftime.
The second half, much like the first, was dominated by Northwestern. Outshooting the rams 30-7 in the half, the Eagles held the 9-2 advantage in the scoring column as well. As a team, UNW caused 28 turnovers, tallied 48 ground balls, and totaled 28 face off wins.
Individually, eight different Eagles made their way into the scoring column.
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) led the way with a career-high nine goals to go along with five assists, while Stephens ended the contest with an even six goals.
Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) continued his success from last week, with four goals and four assists, and freshman
Landon Thurnau (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) added another four goals with three assists.
Mat Anderson (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) pitched in with three goals and three assists, while
Joseph Will (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) and
Cameron Hayes (Cookeville, Tenn./Cookeville) each added two goals apiece, respectively.
In net, Zach Shockency totaled seven saves in the win.
