ORLANDO, FLA. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team concluded play in Orlando Friday morning, taking down Transylvania University 5-4 to finish the week 4-1 in the Florida heat. The win moves the Eagles to 6-6 in non-conference action.

Northwestern faced some stiff competition in doubles play to begin the day as the Eagles grabbed just one match victory in the three that were played. The second team pairing of Shawna Spears (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and Mafee Rinta (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) picked up an 8-3 win to put Northwestern on the board.
UNW then shined in the singles portion of play, taking four of the six matches played to squeak out a tight 5-4 match victory. Spears (6-3, 6-3) and Rinta (6-0, 6-4) both recorded their second wins of the day at the three and five positions, while at the four and six positions Gracie LeBrun (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) (6-1, 6-2) and Belinda Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) (6-1, 6-0) cruised to wins as well.
