ORLANDO, FLA. – Today the University of Northwestern men's tennis team began their slate of matches in Orlando this week, splitting their matchups with Franciscan University (4-5) and Curry College (7-2). These results move the Eagles to 3-3 in non-conference action.
Match 1: Northwestern 4, Franciscan University 5

Northwestern began the afternoon of play by taking one of the three doubles matches, as the number one team of underclassmen Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Austin Bricker (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grand) picked up the 8-4 win.
UNW then earned three match wins in some very close play across the board in singles action, as three of the six matchups went the distance. The freshmen duo of Bricker and Isaac Velgersdyk each secured straight sets wins, with Bricker picking up his second win of the day (7-5, 6-0) at the second position and Velgersdyk grabbing the victory (6-2, 7-6) at the five position. Senior Colton Paskewitz (Browerville, Minn/Staples) was the lone Eagle to win a singles match that went the distance (6-4, 4-6, 10-4), as he outlasted his opponent at the six position.

UNW started off the evening of play on the right foot, securing wins in all three doubles matches. The number three pairing of freshmen Velgersdyk and Caleb Quernmoen (Becker, Minn./Becker) were especially dominate, picking up the decisive 8-0 win.
Northwestern then outlasted their opponents in four of the six singles matches played, to secure the match victory. Across the team's four wins, the Eagles dropped just thirteen total games in the straight set victories.
