ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team welcomed UW-Superior to the Ericksen Center for Wednesday night conference action. The Eagles, who have already secured a berth to the UMAC Playoffs, recorded an 89-66 victory over the Yellowjackets. The win featured two milestones for the Eagles: the team's tenth straight win and a record-setting eight three-pointers from senior guard
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan)
Despite falling behind 10-4 to start the contest, the Eagles put together a 10-1 run to take control.
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan) propelled the run, draining three shots from beyond the arc to garner 14 points in just the first eight minutes of action.
Northwestern extended the lead to nine following a
Brady Bellefeuille (Frazee, Minn./Frazee) steal and kick out to sharp shooter,
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake). The threes continued to rain, this time from
Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) and
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) – giving the Eagles a 17 point edge.
Bazile Jr. topped off the first half with his fifth three-pointer as time expired, putting Northwestern up 46-28 as the guard added 17 points of his own in the first 20 minutes.
Northwestern continued to control the game in the second half, going up by as much as 31 points. The Eagles shot 45% from the field, drained 15 three-pointers and featured four players in double-figure scoring.
The conference-leading Eagles turned the ball over just five times in the game and out-rebounded the Yellowjackets, 43-32.
Bazile Jr. finished the game with a career-best eight three-pointers and 26 points. The senior connected on eight of 13 attempts to tie Northwestern's school record for threes in a single game. This feat was last achieved by Tim Aalsma in 1998.
Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) added 13 points on the night and six rebounds.
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) finished with 12 points and
Brady Peterson (Princeton, Minn./Homeschool) recorded 11 on a perfect three of three shooting from beyond the arc.
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) dished out eight assists and
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) pulled down 10 rebounds.
With the win, Northwestern improves to 16-6 overall, 12-1 in the UMAC. The Yellowjackets fall to 6-17, 4-10 in conference play this season.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 when they travel to Duluth, Minn. to take on St. Scholastica. The Saints enter the match-up with a 13-9 record and a 9-4 mark in the UMAC. Follow the game live via live stats and live video at
