Women's Tennis Falls to St. Kate's at Baseline Tennis Center

Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team fell to St. Kate's, 8-1 at Baseline Tennis Center located on the University of Minnesota's campus Friday evening. The loss moves the Eagles to 0-3 early on this season in non-conference action.

UNW started off the night with several tight doubles matches, but came up short in all three. The one pairing of Nikki Paskewitz (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley) and Emily Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and two pairing of Shawna Spears (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and Mafee Rinta (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) both pushed their matches down to the wire before falling short. Each of these pairings fell 8-6.

Northwestern had three matches go the distance across singles play and came away with one match victory. The senior, Paskewitz, outlasted her opponent at the one position (6-1, 4-6, 10-4) to earn a hard-fought sole victory for the Eagles.

Emily Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and sophomore, Mafee Rinta (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) also took their matches to the distance at the two and six positions respectively, before falling in a final set tiebreaker.
