Box Score SARTELL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team hit the courts at Sta-Fit in Sartell for a non-conference match against Saint John's University Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell to the Johnnies, 8-1 – despite winning 31 games off the opponent in singles action.

Northwestern competed most consistently in doubles play on Saturday, pushing all three matches to tight scores. At the No. 1 spot,
Austin Bricker (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grand) and
Landon Ridpath (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) fell in an 8-4 match.
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Tyrus Studer (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Stevens) lost in an 8-5 final, while
Colton Paskewitz (Browerville, Minn/Staples) and
Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield Senior) dropped a heartbreaker, 8-7 (7-4) at the no. 3 spot.
Isaac Velgersdyk (Savage, Minn./Southwest Christian) posted the Eagles solo win on the day in dramatic fashion. The freshman dropped the first set 4-6 before coming back to win 6-3 (10-5). Velgersdyk is 2-0 on the year in singles play.
The Eagles will return to action on Friday, Feb. 22 when they take on Saint Ambrose University in non-conference play. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake.
