Women's Basketball Third Quarter Surge Lifts Eagles to Win Over Lawrence, 68-54

ST. PAUL, MINN. -- The University of Northwestern women's basketball team hosted a non-conference matchup Tuesday night against the Lawrence University Vikings of Appleton, Wisconsin. The Eagles put together a great game leading all but the first minute in regulation. Northwestern moves to 6-6 on the season as Lawrence falls to 4-3.
 
First quarter play began with a Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) layup before Lawrence and Northwestern went back and forth, exchanging baskets. The Vikings would then go on a ten point run to go up 11-4 on the Eagles.
 
UNW would respond with a ten point run of their own to go up by three with under two minutes in the quarter. Eight of Northwestern's points came in the paint.
 
The first minute and a half went scoreless in the second quarter before a Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) three pointer put the Eagles up by four. Northwestern would keep their lead all quarter, their biggest lead (7) coming at the end of the half, 32-25.
 
Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) and Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) led the Eagles with seven points each in first half action.
 
Third quarter play started strong as UNW continued to dominate. Northwestern would score 23 points to the Vikings 18. Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) more than doubled her first half points adding eight. Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) added six in the third quarter.
 
Northwestern would score another 12 points in the paint and add five fast break points in the third. UNW finished the quarter up 12 (55-43).
 
In fourth quarter action, Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) would score first on a three pointer to go up 58-43. Northwestern continued to dominate the Vikings in all categories. The Eagles ended the game with an electric 68-54 score.
 
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) led the Eagles with her first career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) followed with 14 points and three rebounds, while Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) ended with 12 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday afternoon hosting the University of Dubuque with a 2 pm tip-off.
