NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Northwestern volleyball team hit the road to Martin Luther College for a Saturday afternoon conference match-up. The Eagles handled the Knights with ease, earning their ninth straight win as Head Coach
Beth Wilmeth hit a coaching milestone. Wilmeth recorded her 400th career win at the helm of the UNW program in just 16 seasons of coaching. She is the winningest coach in program history.
Northwestern improves to 20-7 on the year, 6-1 in the UMAC as Martin Luther falls to 4-22 overall, 2-5 in conference play. The Eagles have downed the Knights in 31 straight matches, dating back to 2006.
It was another day of consistent offense for Northwestern, who leads the UMAC in hitting percentage at .215. Today UNW averaged an impressive .371 team attack average and recorded 43 kills to the Knights' 27.
Jenay Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Heritage Christian) led all players with 12 kills on the day, hitting .407.
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) added 11 kills and
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) tacked on eight, with a team-best four service aces.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) recorded 35 assists in the three-setter and rookie libero
Marylyn Schroyer (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) finished with 19 digs.
Northwestern will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 30 when they host conference-leader, Minnesota Morris. The match outcome will determine UMAC Playoff seeding. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in the Ericksen Center.
