ST. PETER, Minn. - The University of Northwestern men's tennis team competed at the Gustavus Adolphus Midwest Open this past weekend. Amid tough competition, the Eagles showcased a strong first look from a very young UNW team. The Eagle roster features six freshmen and four sophomores this season. The Midwest Open served as Northwestern's only fall competition.

All 10 Eagles competed in the singles draw which began Friday. Freshman
Joel Fremling () came away with the first round win, defeating Alex Meyer of St. Thomas. Sophomore
Tyrus Studer (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Stevens) also recorded a first round win. Studer defeated Jared Hefel of Wartburg 6-4, 6-3. He competed primarily at the no. 4 single spot for the Eagles in 2018-19, finishing 5-2 in the UMAC.
Both Fremling and Studer fell in the second round – ending the Eagles run in the 128 player single elimination tournament.
Freshman
Collin Hemann () and Zach Revenig earned a first round bye in doubles action. The duo faced a tough Grinnell team in the second round, falling 8-1.
Tyrus Studer (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Stevens) and
Adam Ryerse () also advanced on a first round bye, but fell to the Grinnell duo of Skidmore and Kennel in round two.
