Women's Soccer Earns Third Straight Win In UMAC Over Northland 2-0

ST PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team hit the turf Tuesday evening for another Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match-up. The Eagles faced off against the Northland College LumberJills. The game ended with a UNW win and a final score of 2-0.

The Lady Eagles came out fighting hard and ready to compete. Eleven minutes into the game, sophomore, defender, Natalie Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan County Christian), scored on a high ball kicked from half field that made its way over the keepers head.

Northwestern defended well along with solid possession against a hard working Northland team. The Eagles were able to secure their second goal of the night from Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) as she had an open opportunity on net, which was blocked by the keeper, but then put back by the junior forward on the follow up.

UNW took 18 shots in the first half to the LumberJills 4.

As play got underway second half, the Eagles battled hard against the wind. Offensively, they had many more chances on goal but were not able to score with a strong veteran goalie against them. The Eagles took 25 shots in the second half alone.

Although there were no goals scored in the second half, the momentum and effort by the Eagles was noticed. The Northland LumberJills had only six saves all game, proving Northwestern's strong defense.

UNW moves to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in conference while Northland falls to 1-10 and 1-3 in conference.

The Lady Eagles will be back at Reynolds Field tomorrow, Oct. 16 to take on the Carrol Pioneers at 4 pm.
