Eagles to Welcome Scholastica for Saturday Night Lights Contest

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern football team will welcome St. Scholastica to Reynolds Field Saturday night for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match-up. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. and will serve as Youth Football Night. Local youth football players and their families will receive free admission at the gate (if wearing a youth football jersey). The Eagles and the Saints enter the match-up after falling in last week's UMAC contests. Scholastica dropped a 27-6 final to conference leader, Martin Luther, while Northwestern fell to MacMurray on the road, 41-20.

A Year Ago vs. the Saints
A year ago, the Eagles traveled to Duluth, Minn. where the Saints pulled off a 14-7 win, despite a late game comeback from Northwestern. Evan Pruitt (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian) scored the lone touchdown for Northwestern and hauled in eight receptions that covered a team-high 66 yards. In addition to last year's match-up, the last three meetings with Scholastica have been decided by the same score (14-7). The Saints lead the all-time series with UNW, 7-4.

UNW Stat Leaders
Northwestern enters the match-up with a 1-4 overall record. The Eagles were picked to finish 2nd in the UMAC by league coaches this fall, but have faced a tough early season schedule. Senior running back, Payton Bowdry (Minneapolis, Minn./South), has led the Eagle offense this season. Bowdry has carried the ball 86 times for 499 yards with four touchdowns to average 99.8 yards/game (the third most in the UMAC). Sophomore quarterback, Damon Clapper (Dallas Center, Iowa/Dallas Center - Grimes), has also made an impact carrying the ball. Clapper is tied for the most rush yards by a QB in conference play with 207. Caleb Sieben (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) is UNW's top receiver, having hauled in 23 receptions (ranked fifth in UMAC). Defensively, George Obitz (Florence, Ariz./Florence) has racked up 56 stops on the year, the 2nd most in the league.

Spotlight on the Saints
Quarterback Zach Edwards has throw 18 touchdown passes this season, the second most in NCAA division III. Accordingly, Edwards' top receiver, Mitchell Adrian, ranks third in the nation, averaging 9.8 receptions per game. Scholastica has recorded wins over Mayville State (42-35), Presentation (41-13), Crown (35-32) and Westminster (28-27) this season to rest in third place in the UMAC. The blue and gold are averaging 30.4 points per game and 265 passings yards/game. Northwestern edges CSS in total offense, averaging 317.2 yards/game to the Saints' 309.6.
