ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team welcomed Crown College to the Ericksen Center for midweek conference action. The Eagles put a quick end to a two-game losing streak by defeating the Storm, 77-43 in final scoring.
Northwestern got off to a strong start, taking a 16-8 lead after one quarter of action.
Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley) propelled the Eagles to a 23-point second quarter after draining six shots from beyond the arc. Lund entered the half with 20 points as Northwestern led 39-16.
The rookie guard started the second half where she left off, connecting on her seventh three-pointer (tying the second most three-point makes in a single game record). Balanced scoring and quick transition play gave the Eagles a 64-23 advantage heading in the fourth.
Thirteen players saw action in the contest as the Eagles picked up 18 steals and scored 32 points off of turnovers.
Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley) finished with a career-high 26 points after draining seven of 14 shots from long range.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) added 12 points, while
Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) finished with 10.
Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) picked up five steals, and Lund dished out a team-best five assists.
With the win, Northwestern improves to 9-10 overall, 6-4 in the UMAC. The Eagles advance the all-time head to head record against Crown to 71-3 as the Storm falls to 3-15, 1-8 in conference play this season.
Northwestern will return to action on Wednesday, January 30 when they travel to Mankato, Minn. to take on Bethany Lutheran College. The Vikings enter the match-up leading the conference with a 15-4 record and a 9-1 mark in the UMAC. Follow the game live via
