RIVER FALLS, WIS. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team traveled to take on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (1-1-1, 0-0 WIAC) Tuesday. The Eagles (0-1-1, 0-0 UMAC) battled hard during the 110-minute contest that ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Eagles offense started strong, tallying several shots within the first few minutes of play.
Nearing the midway point of the first half, UNW found themselves behind as UWRF were first to find the back of the net, scoring back-to-back goals.
The Eagles answered back with four minutes remaining in the half when sophomore
Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) tapped one in. At the end of the first half, Northwestern trailed 2-1.
The purple and gold came out ready to play at the start of the second half. Sophomore
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool) knocked one in to even the score, 2-2.
With strong efforts on both the defensive and offensive ends, the Eagles held the Falcons to a scoreless second half and double overtime but were unable to put more points on the board. Stat leaders for the contest were Currie (7 S, 5 SOG, 1 G),
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) (4 S, 1 SOG), and
Emily Michaelson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) (2 S, 2 SOG).
