ASHLAND, Wis. – No. 25 University of Northwestern matched up against Northland College in Friday night action at the Lumberjills home court. The Eagles ended the night with a three-set sweep, moving to 10-4 overall, 5-0 in UMAC action. Northland drops to 1-12 this season, 0-5 in conference play. With the win, the Eagles advance their win streak to five (15 straight sets).
In the two teams' second meeting this year, the Eagles committed just 11 errors to Northland's 20 and hit .315 as a team to glide to the win with set scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 25-22.
Senior outside hitter
Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) led Northwestern with 11 kills, hitting .550 in the match. Halvorsen added two aces, a pair of blocks and five digs for a well-rounded performance.
Anna Gasch (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) added eight kills (.583), while
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) knocked in six and dug up 11 balls.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACCRAY) and
Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) shared the setting responsibilities as Schwitters dished out 19 assists and Kilbo added 10. Freya Hansen led the Eagle defense with 14 digs.
