ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team hosted a conference matchup this afternoon, taking on the Northland College Lumberjills (0-5-0, 0-1-0 UMAC). The Eagles secured their second win of the season by a final score of 2-0, moving Norwestern's record to 2-3-2 overall and 2-0-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
It was all Eagle offense in the first half. Northwestern was first on the board, with a goal from junior forward
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) off an
Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) assist. In the period, UNW tallied 11 total shots with seven SOG. Northwestern held a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
The Eagles kept up the pressure in the second half on both ends of the field. Defensively for the Eagles, goalie
Samantha Colombo (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) recorded three saves without allowing a goal. Offensively for Northwestern,
Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) was able to net a goal from an
Emily Michaelson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) cross to give the Eagles to 2-0 victory.
