Women's Soccer Defeat the Knights 3-2 in UMAC Opener

NEW ULM, Minn.— The University of Northwestern women's soccer team (1-2-2, 1-0-0 UMAC) defeated Martin Luther College (0-4-0, 0-1-0 UMAC) 3-2 during Wednesday's afternoon match in New Ulm.

The Eagles flew into action during the first half. Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) and Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool) fired off several shots within the first 10 minutes of play, with Currie finding the back of the net off her own rebound to give Northwestern the early lead.

To close the half, UNW found themselves with a tied game, 1-1 even after firing 24 shots during the period.

Near the start of the second half, Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) set up Norman for a successful shot, restoring the lead for the Eagles, 2-1. Less than two minutes later, Welch repeated her assist, this time to Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy), pushing the lead to 3-1.

Northwestern maintained their 3-1 lead for the majority of the remaining half. Martin Luther found an opening with only a few minutes remaining in the contest to create the final score of 3-2.

Stat leaders for the contest included Norman (15 S, 8 SOG, 1 G), Welch (12 S, 6 SOG, 2 A), and Currie (4 S, 2 SOG, 1 G).
