ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern Eagles (15-17) were dealt a tough loss today against Hamline University (14-19) on Senior Day. The Pipers won the game 18-2.
Hamline scored eight runs in the first two innings and the best chance that the Eagles had followed in the third.
Andrew Simonson (Lakeland, Minn./Eastridge) led off the inning with a solo homer and then
Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) reached with his record-tying walk. He now has 36 walks on the season which makes him a co-leader in Northwestern history.
Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) singled Morrell home after
Caleb Piersma (Pella, Iowa/Pella) also reached base before the inning ended. On the day the Eagles only managed five hits with
Bradley Spencer (Papillion, NE/Papillion South) contributing two of them.
Nick Fladager (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) got the start on the mound before he was relieved by
Chad Wakabayashi (Waipahu,HI/Hanalani).
Noah Kinniburgh (Crystal, Minn./Homeschool) then got his first varsity action on the mound before
Quinton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) relieved him. Sam Grover also got an inning and
Henry Waage (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) pitched the ninth.
