ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team (2-8) was defeated by Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas on a frigid Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Field. The visiting Pirates (4-8) jumped out to a 7-1 halftime lead and then tacked on 11 more in the second half to down the Eagles, 18-7.
Hannah Shands (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi) continued to add impressive numbers to her 2018 resume, as she found the back of the net a team-best four times to lead the offensive attack.
Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi),
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and
Annie Ellis (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) accounted for UNW's other three goals.
Logan Retzlaff (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) was all over the field, as the speedy freshman caused three turnovers.
Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) made seven saves in goal.
Northwestern fired 26 shots with 17 of those being on goal. The Eagles held a 15-10 advantage in draw controls.
