Men's Lacrosse Tops Northland On Senior Day

ST. PAUL, MINN. – In Friday's 2018 home finale, the University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team defeated Northland College (2-9 overall) by a final score of 14-2. With the victory, the Eagles balance their seasonal record to 4-4.

On the afternoon contest, the team also celebrated its two outstanding seniors, Joseph Will (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) and Allen Hubert (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji), thanking them for their contributions both on and off the lacrosse field.

After taking a 3-0 advantage at the close of the first quarter thanks to three different Eagles, Northwestern added six more goals to the scoreboard to pace a 9-0 halftime lead. UNW's strong offensive attack carried over into the final two frames, with the home squad burying five more goals to Northlands two, to soar to a 14-2 mid-day victory.

Freshman Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) and Sophomore Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) led the Eagle offense, finishing with four goals apiece on the afternoon contest. Marlenee also scooped six ground balls and tallied two assists, while Stephens noted three assists and picked up three grounders. Freshman Christian Erickson (Buffalo, Minn./Delano) also made quite the impression on the game, netting three goals for UNW, while Hubert added two and Sophomore Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) one.

As a team, the Eagles totaled an impressive 49 shots (23 SOG), 21 ground balls, and went 16-for-17 on clears.

The purple and gold will travel to Illinois on Friday, April 13, for a match against Concordia University Chicago. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. For more information, fans should visit www.unweagles.com.
