ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team had their four match winning streak snapped Friday evening, as they lost in a tight 5-4 battle to the St. Scholastica Saints. The defeat moves the Eagles to 11-10 on the season.
Northwestern began the night's action by taking two of three contests in doubles play. The number two team of
Emily Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and
Shawna Spears (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) was especially impressive, cruising to an 8-3 victory.
The Eagles battled well in numerous singles matches, but came away with just two wins in the six matches.
Nikki Paskewitz (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley) dominated in her win at the second position (6-0, 6-2) and Spears secured an impressive comeback win at the fourth position (0-6, 6-2, 10-5).
