UNW's Powerful Offense Fuels Win Over Johnson & Whales University-Denver

DENVER, COLO. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team picked up a dominant 27-3 victory against the hosting Johnson and Whales University-Denver Wildcats (1-10) Friday evening in Colorado. With the win, the Eagles tallied their sixth-straight win on the season and better their record to 8-4.

UNW started the scoring off with a goal by Sophomore Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) at the 12:45 mark in the first period and didn't look back, finishing the quarter with a 6-0 lead. In the second period, the Eagles continued to pad their lead, knocking in 10 more goals to hold a 16-0 halftime advantage.

The Wildcats fought back in the third period, scoring all three of their goals, but it proved to be too little too late as Northwestern continued to add to their lead before taking the game by a final score of 27-3.

In an afternoon contest that saw a lot of UNW offense, Freshman Christian Erickson (Buffalo, Minn./Delano) led the way for the Eagles as he scored a career-high eight goals on ten shots. Vander Kooi was close behind, scoring seven on the game, while Sophomore Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) pitched in six. Senior Allen Hubert (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) also played his best match yet, as he netted four goals, while Joseph Will (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) and Caleb Sieben (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) buried a goal apiece.

As a team, Northwestern scored a season-high 27 goals on 53 shots, recorded 15 assists, and scooped up 42 ground balls.

The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow as they play Central Christian College of Kansas in their season finale. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. (MT) in Denver, Colo. For more information, fans should visit www.unweagles.com.
