DENVER, COLO. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team captured a dominant 25-4 win over Central Christian College of Kansas (0-9 overall) Saturday afternoon in its season finale contest in Denver, Colorado. With the victory, UNW finishes the 2018 season with a program-best 9-4 record.
The Eagles came out swinging for the nets, wracking up a 9-1 lead by the close of the first quarter. The second period was just as strong as the first, as Northwestern buried another nine goals to take a confident 18-2 lead into the halftime break.
UNW's offensive momentum carried over into the final two frames, with the visiting Eagles scoring seven more goals to CC's two, to secure a 25-4 season finale victory.
Sophomore
Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) made quite the impression on the day's competition, netting a career-high nine goals on the game. Sophomore
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) also shot hot, finishing with eight goals, while
Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) buried three. Marlenee also picked up a career-high 17 ground balls and won 26 face offs, respectively. Senior
Allen Hubert (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) also had another great game, scoring two goals for the Eagles, while Senior
Joseph Will (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake), Freshman
Christian Erickson (Buffalo, Minn./Delano), and Sophomore
Tristan Turner (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) each noted one.
As a collective group, UNW recorded a season-best 70 shots (39 SOG) and 67 ground balls, and went 15-for-17 on clears.
