ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team came away victors in their season opening match at Johnson Courts Tuesday evening, defeating UW-Superior 8-1. The win moves the Eagles to 9-9 on the season.
The Eagles had lots of success in doubles play to open the evening, getting three comfortable wins. Playing at the third position,
Mafee Rinta (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) and
Gracie LeBrun (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) were very successful in their convincing win (8-2).
UNW continued its exceptional play in singles, taking five of the six matches played. At the first and third positions
Brooke Lapinski (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen) and
Emily Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) were both very impressive, surrendering just two games each, while
Nikki Paskewitz (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley) dropped just one game at the second position.
