UNW Extends Win Streak To Five With Win Over NCU

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team tallied its fifth-straight win Tuesday afternoon as they defeated North Central University (0-8) on home turf. With five different Eagles founding the back of the net, UNW was able to secure the midday win, 22-1, over the visiting Rams. With the victory, Northwestern improves to 7-4 on the season. 

Northwestern took control right out of the gate, ending the first quarter with a sturdy 5-0 lead thanks to Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield)'s three goals and Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo)'s two.
The Eagles strong offensive attack carried over into the second frame, as they netted eight more goals to take a 13-0 advantage into the halftime break.

UNW powered through the final two periods, burying nine more goals to shut down NCU by a final score of 22-1.

Sophomore Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) recorded a career-high game as he scored eight goals to go along with three assists, while Marlenee also noted a career-high match with five goals for the Eagles. Senior Allen Hubert (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) also saw his best match on the season, knocking in a hat trick of goals on the day's competition, while Senior Joseph Will (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) netted his first-ever collegiate goal. The other five goals scored on the afternoon contest were netted by Vander Kooi, respectively. 

As a team, Northwestern had a single-game record of 56 shots (32 SOG), 34 ground balls, and went 18-for-24 on clears.

The purple and gold will finish out their 2018 slate in Denver, Colorado this weekend with contests against Johnson & Whales University-Denver and Central Christian College of Kansas. For more information, fans should visit www.unweagles.com.
