ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern softball team rebounded with a pair of wins Tuesday, as the Eagles defeated Minnesota Morris (10-22, 4-8) 6-4 and 8-0 at Reynolds Field Tuesday afternoon. UNW betters its season mark to 20-14 overall and 9-5 in league play.
Game One
A three-run fourth propelled the Eagles to a 6-4 win in game one.
Faith Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Vallley-Watkins) highlighted that inning with a two-run homer to left-center.
Starting pitcher
Lexi Kopacek (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run scored, while
Ciara Scheithauer (Rib Lake, Wis./Rib Lake) drove in a pair of runs.
Kopacek (10-7) went the distance, surrendering four runs on eight hits.
Game Two
UNW scored a run in each of the first four innings before putting up a four spot in the fifth to earn the run-rule win, 8-0.
Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege) and
Ciara Scheithauer (Rib Lake, Wis./Rib Lake) both collected three hits apiece, while Nelson and Ronning drove in two runs each.
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) scored three times.
Moriah Maunu (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) (3-2) got the start in the circle and went the first four innings, not allowing a run, while striking out two.
