ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern baseball team (10-15, 5-3) continued to play excellent baseball by sweeping UW-Superior (1-19, 0-6) today at Reynolds Field.  They followed up splitting at St. Scholastica yesterday by winning game one 6-5 in 10 innings and game two 12-6.

Game One
The Eagles had to come from behind early against the Yellowjackets after they scored two runs in the top of the first but quickly responded with four in the second.

Carlton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) hit a sacrifice fly and the other three runs were all scored by bases loaded walks to Caleb Piersma (Pella, Iowa/Pella), Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool), and Andrew Simonson (Lakeland, Minn./Eastridge).

The Yellowjackets took the 5-4 lead in the top of the eighth but the Eagles responded in a big way in the ninth.  Carter Michaelson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) tripled to right field and Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) scored him via a sacrifice fly to send the game to extra innings.  In the bottom of the tenth, the Eagles loaded the bases with only one out and won the game when Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) was hit by a pitch

Philip Wall (Juneau, AK./IDEA) got the start on the mound and gave up five runs over seven and two-thirds innings with six strikeouts.  Carter Michaelson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) got the win as he pitched two and one-third scoreless innings to conclude the game.

The Eagles reached base 19 times with nine hits and ten walks.  Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) reached base four times and Carlton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) reached three times.  Carter Michaelson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul), Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin), Chad Wakabayashi (Waipahu,HI/Hanalani), and Caleb Piersma (Pella, Iowa/Pella) each reached twice.

Game Two
In game two the Eagles jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning via an Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) bases clearing double.  Superior responded with five runs of their own in the top of the fifth, which forced the Eagles to come from behind once again.

Northwestern tied it in the sixth after Krahn reached on a fielder's choice which scored two runs.  The Eagles scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh as Andrew Simonson (Lakeland, Minn./Eastridge), Bradley Spencer (Papillion, NE/Papillion South), Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool), and Krahn all contributed RBIs in the inning.  The Eagles scored their twelfth run in the bottom of the eighth when Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) scored.

Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) pitched eight strong innings as he only gave up three earned runs and also struck out six.  Andrew Simonson (Lakeland, Minn./Eastridge) pitched the ninth and closed the door.
