ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's and women's basketball teams will head to the Northland Wednesday for a pair of UMAC semifinal contests. The men will play at the College of St. Scholastica, while the women will make the short trek across the bridge to take on the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The Eagles are fresh off their 52-39 UMAC playoff opening-round win over St. Scholastica on Monday night. The top-seeded Yellowjackets have reigned over UMAC opponents, having compiled a perfect record in regular season and postseason play. They are led for reigning UMAC Player of the Year Hailey Kontny, who is averaging 15.6 points per game.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) (15.5 ppg) and
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) (10.3 ppg) lead the way for the Eagles. Berglund – who is shooting better than 50 percent from the floor – is also pulling down 6.6 rebounds per game. In their two meetings this year, UWS defeated UNW on both occasions, taking down the Eagles 63-40 in Superior and 59-43 inside the Ericksen Center.

The third-seeded Eagles will make their way to take on the second-seeded Saints in what should be a highly-entertaining contest. The two teams split during the year, with each team winning on the road.
Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) is averaging just under 14 points per game to pace the UNW offense.
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) and
Isaiah Rahier (Northome, Minn./Northome) have also made solid contributions, averaging 12.6 and 10.8 points per game, respectively. Youngberg is also averaging an impressive eight rebounds per game. For the competitors, Brandon Newman leads a balanced scoring attack, averaging 14.2 points per game, while Collin Anderson, Jarod Wilken and Zach Dahlman also all average double figures.
