ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team welcomed North Central to the Ericksen Center for the Eagles second UMAC contest this season. UNW extended its win streak to three, posting an 85-67 win over the Rams.
Northwestern improves to 5-3 on the year and 2-0 in the Upper Midwest. North Central falls to 4-6 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. The Eagles lead the Rams, 76-14 in all-time head to head meetings and have won the last six straight.
Northwestern set the tone early, jumping out to an 8-0 lead and never trailed. The Eagles shot 55% from the field in the second half and featured double-digit scoring from five different players for a well-rounded offensive effort.
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) led Northwestern with a dominant double-double performance (his fourth this season). The junior forward finished with 22 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.
Senior guard
Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) added 16 points and nine rebounds, while freshman
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) added 13 points – draining three of six shots from beyond the arc. Moore had a team-best six assists.
Brady Bellefeuille (Frazee, Minn./Frazee) added 12 points and
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan) recorded 11. Bellefeuille pulled down seven boards and dished out three assists.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 12 when they travel to St. Bonifacius, Minn. to take on Crown College. Tipoff is slated for 7:15 p.m. against the Storm who enter the match-up with a 6-3 overall record and sit 1-0 in UMAC play.
